Thank you to NetGalley and Bindery Books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review! ——— What’s absolutely wonderful about cave diving is that I never have to do it! What starts off as “just another job” quickly morphs into an equally parts-psychological and physical battle of survival, suspicion, and self-discovery, set within a truly otherworldly, atmospheric environment. As we descend further into the Void, we encounter unique dangers within every level: man-eating flora, fauna that may try to use your body as a breeding ground, and perhaps the most dangerous thing of all…other divers. My one gripe with this story is with our main character, Petra. While a journey of self-discovery often leads to many bad decisions and mistakes, her self-awareness (or rather lack thereof) frustrated me with just how deep her levels of co-dependency on Jade lied. Girly, grow a spine! I really enjoyed this book. I loved the worldbuilding and the tension between crew, although I am confused by the ending. It excelled in building suspense and had some truly horrific imagery that has made botanical body horror one of my favorite sub-genres within the horror space. This was exactly what I needed.
