"A brave and original debut, Weyward is a spellbinding story about what may transpire when the natural world collides with a legacy of witchcraft." ––Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The London Séance Society

I am a Weyward, and wild inside.

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great-aunt she barely remembers. With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate. But she suspects that her great-aunt had a secret. One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century.

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd. When Altha was a girl, her mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world. But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence of witchcraft is laid out against Altha, she knows it will take all her powers to maintain her freedom.

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate. Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death. The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom.

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an astonishing debut, and an enthralling novel of female resilience.

Soooo good. Really well written, I got through this so quick. I loved how everything tied together so well in the end, no loose ends even though it covered multiple perspectives and eras

4/5 ⭐ 0/5 🌶️ 📖My Thoughts I loved this book even though the content wasn't always lighthearted. The author covers a lot of dark themes that pertain to how women have been treated and are still treated today. Even though each character is going through dark times in their lives, I felt like they had little wins throughout the story which made me happy. I loved the family lore and the different POV's from each Weyward woman from different time periods. I know some reviewers have found it problematic that the author used magic as a way that each woman faced down the bad things that happened to them, but I found it to be lovely. While yes, these traumatic things happen to women, a book should be a way for us to escape. I loved that about these stories. ⚠️Triggers Some of the trigger warnings for this book include, racial slurs, rape, domestic abuse, suicidal ideation, attempted abortion, stillbirth, miscarriage, emesis, stalking, and animal abuse. Please read at your discretion and take care!

    DNF'd a reread

I have DNF'd the physical book and will use the audiobook. I was struggling to tell the different POVs apart with the physical book (likely due to a slump).

  • I really couldn't handle seeing Kate getting R*ped by Simon so I had to stop it just makes me uncomfortable if I'm being honest

This book was an absolutely incredible journey through the lives of three Weyward women, I absolutely love the way in which the ladies are written and how their stories connect over the years! I have been recommending this book to anyone who will listen to me, if you haven’t read this yet, you should read it now!!
