Go inside a heartbreaking fictional school shooting, minute-by-terrifying-minute. Everyone has a reason to fear the boy with the gun...

10:00 a.m.: The principal of Opportunity, Alabama's high school finishes her speech, welcoming the entire student body to a new semester and encouraging them to excel and achieve.

10:02 a.m.: The students get up to leave the auditorium for their next class.

10:03 a.m.: The auditorium doors won't open.

10:05 a.m.: Someone starts shooting.

Over the course of 54 minutes, four students must confront their greatest hopes, and darkest fears, as they come face-to-face with the boy with the gun. In a world where violence in schools is at an all-time high and school shootings are a horrifyingly common reality for teenagers, This Is Where It Ends is a rallying cry to end the gun violence epidemic for good.

This story follows four students from Opportunity High during a day in which they will never forget and that may haunt them forever. I found this to be very eye-opening, as no one ever really knows what others are dealing with and how they react to the things they go through.

I have cried so many times over this story... The characters, the experiences, the fear... it all felt so real. Like I was right there alongside them. At the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, my high school, a school I had just graduated from earlier in June, faced a shooter threat. For days, students lived in fear unknowing of what would happen next: scared to go to school before it inevitably closed and the rumors proved false. I cried for them, I cried with them. This story helped me relive that: helped me reflect on my own high school experience and how easy it would’ve been for any of these kids with bad experiences to snap. I was lucky, WE were lucky, but that can’t be said for everyone. Read this story and remember your humanity.
