The Prison Healer
“Lynette Noni is a masterful storyteller. A must-read for any fantasy lover!” — SARAH J. MAAS, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author
Seventeen-year-old Kiva Meridan has spent the last ten years fighting for survival in the notorious death prison, Zalindov, working as the prison healer.
When the Rebel Queen is captured, Kiva is charged with keeping the terminally ill woman alive long enough for her to undergo the Trial by Ordeal: a series of elemental challenges against the torments of air, fire, water, and earth, assigned to only the most dangerous of criminals.
Then a coded message from Kiva’s family arrives, containing a single order: “Don’t let her die. We are coming.” Aware that the Trials will kill the sickly queen, Kiva risks her own life to volunteer in her place. If she succeeds, both she and the queen will be granted their freedom.
But no one has ever survived.
With an incurable plague sweeping Zalindov, a mysterious new inmate fighting for Kiva’s heart, and a prison rebellion brewing, Kiva can’t escape the terrible feeling that her trials have only just begun.

Wow, I actually really enjoyed this! This was a book that I had thought I'd enjoy, but I didn't realize exactly how much I'd enjoy it. It was definitely the type of palate cleanser I've been looking for, so I'm glad I picked it up. I'll definitely be continuing on with this series. Overall, I give this book 4.5/5 stars and I really did enjoy it.

This was a pretty easy read, a little YA but enjoyable for the most part. There were some parts that were pretty predictable, but was still not a bad read. I may continue this series later.

It's a good enough fantasy, but it suffers from the usual YA pitfalls. Some modern culture references a girl that grew up in a prison had no way of knowing; some plot twists were too obvious; some came absolutely out of nowhere; some were very good! The setting is interesting, FMC is very sensible and has a good characterization. Tipp is adorable. Can't say I'm dying to know what happens next, but will continue the series.

What a ride! While it started a bit slow, the ambiance, the writing, the characters are remarkable. The story development is really fantastic, and you really feel the characters. I'd definitely recommend it. This tends to be more adult in my opinion than young adult. Some of the descriptions and character thoughts can be quite intense. This isn't a "happy" book.
