I am a BIG J Bree book enjoyer. I DEVOURED Hannaford Prep (one of my all time favorite series'), Queen Crow and The Bonds that Tie because of the strong female leads, found family aspects, and relatively good character development. I found some of the same here or at least the potential for all of the above. I LOVED Rooke and enjoyed seeing her magic/what she was doing for the earth. I also liked seeing Airlie's change and what happened with their relationship. The overall plot and use of magic/world building was also something I was very interested in. BUT almost all of that is impossible to hold on to when we have one of the dumbest, most annoying MMCs I have ever had the displeasure of having to hear a POV from. By the 60% mark, anytime this man spoke I rolled my eyes. While I want to continue the series, I don't know that I have the time or patience to see if he changes in any meaningful way or see if the romance aspect is redeemed.

WOW. J Bree writing an epic fantasy series is my dream come true. I’ll keep screaming from the rooftops that she is CRIMINALLY UNDER-HYPED! This book was PERFECTION. It has everything I could ask for in a fantasy romance. Forest witches, fated mates, top-notch world and character building, and an amazing plot line. Rooke was an absolutely amazing FMC and she’s going on my list of top 3 favorites of all time. One of the most badass FMC’s I’ve read about. Let’s not forget the enemies to lovers is TOP-NOTCH. There isn’t a lick of romance, lust, love, or anything but pure hatred for over 600 pages. I already wish I could erase this book from my memory so I can read it for the first time again. You are seriously doing yourself a disservice by not reading this book!!!!
