INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

A debut novel full of magic, adventure, and romance, The Book of Doors opens up a thrilling world of urban fantasy for readers of The Midnight Library, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, The Night Circus, and any modern portal fantasy story that mixes the wonder of the unknown with just a tinge of darkness.

Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customers—a lonely yet charming old man—dies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading.

But this is no ordinary book…

It is the Book of Doors.

Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie that any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.

Then she’s approached by a gaunt stranger in a rumpled black suit with a Scottish brogue who calls himself Drummond Fox. He’s a librarian who keeps watch over a unique set of rare volumes. The tome now in Cassie’s possession is not the only book with great power, but it is the one most coveted by those who collect them.

Now Cassie is being hunted by those few who know of the Special Books. With only her roommate Izzy to confide in, she has to decide if she will help the mysterious and haunted Drummond protect the Book of Doors—and the other magical books in his secret library’s care—from those who will do evil. Because only Drummond knows where the unique library is and only Cassie’s book can get them there.

5/5⭐ 0/0🌶️ Tropes - Time travel - High stakes - High action - Insurmountable odds - Traumatic past 📖My Thoughts Wow, this book was incredibly fun but at times confusing. I enjoy a book that makes my brain work a bit from time to time, ok? The writing was beautiful and descriptive. Sometimes it’s hard to visualize words but this author made it painless. I felt that all of the characters were critical to the story and each one had their own personalities, strengths, weaknesses. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator’s voices for each character was impressive! Highly recommend the audiobook. ⚠️Triggers The book had quite a bit of violence that was descriptive including torture, self-harm, blood, mass murder. There are descriptions of grief and losing a loved one to cancer and illness. There’s also some sexist comments from a particular asshole character. 📝 Special Notes While time travel always has plot holes, the author did a thorough job of wrapping up the plot and tying loose ends. I loved how the story weaved and connected the characters together through time travel. The author always had me making guesses and questioning the sequence of time and events. There was one thing I felt wasn’t explained as well as I would have liked. At the same time, I think the author wanted to leave us a bit in the dark and give the book a bit of mystique.

So good! There were moments I had to pause this near the end... It had me gasping with anxiety, there were so many intense things happening when it all started happening! I watch a LOT of scifi and timey-wimey is my fav type, so I do feel like there were a few plot holes here BUT aside from that this was beautifully written, and had wonderful characters and magic system. The bad people were super bad, and the good ones had gone thru so much, it had me rooting for them up until the very end. Loved the audio for this, the narrator did an amazing job with the accents. I will probably read this again someday, I am sure there are little things I missed the first time through and would have a lot of fun rediscovering on a reread. 🌶️0/5 I would not consider this a "romance," maybe in the sense that someone would love books, but there was very little romance and almost zero for the MCs. That aside, this was a lovely read.
