That's Not My Name

Megan Lally

A New York Times and USA Today Bestseller!

She thought she had her life back. She was wrong. A gripping debut thriller perfect for fans of Natalie D. Richards and Vincent Ralph.

It was a mistake to trust him.

Shivering and bruised, a teen wakes up on the side of a dirt road with no memory of how she got there—or who she is. A passing officer takes her to the police station, and not long after, a frantic man arrives. He’s been searching for her for hours. He has her school ID, her birth certificate, and even family photos.

He is her father. Her name is Mary. Or so he says.

When Lola slammed the car door and stormed off into the night, Drew thought they just needed some time to cool off. Except Lola disappeared, and the sheriff, his friends, and the whole town are convinced Drew murdered his girlfriend. Forget proving his innocence, he needs to find her before it’s too late. The longer Lola is missing, the fewer leads there are to follow…and the more danger they both are in.

GO READ THIS BOOK, DONT ASK ME QUESTIONS JUST GO AND READ. This book is so well written, so easy to read, and such such good plot twists. The dual POV is done so well and my heart goes out to Drew and Mary. The entire book had me sitting at the edge of my seat and the ending broke my heart. I kinda don't want to write this review because I feel like I will spoil too much. Just go read this book; it is not long, it is easy to read and you do not want to put it down once you get to around one-third of the book. I wished I could read faster the entire second half of the book. I hope this says enough, I loved it. GO READ IT

*✨ 4 stars ✨* Pre-read thoughts: Book club pick for the month of June, I'm excite! *A teenage girl wakes up bruised on the side of a road with no memory of who she is. The man who claims to be her father has all the proof, but something feels off. At the same time, Drew is searching for his missing girlfriend while the entire town believes he had something to do with her disappearance. As the truth unravels, both teens find themselves caught in something far more dangerous than they realized.* I'm giving this 4 stars simply because I enjoyed it so much. Was it predictable? Yes. Was it groundbreaking? Not really. But honestly, neither of those things are necessarily bad. What impressed me most was how real all of the characters felt. The story never felt overly dramatic or exaggerated, and I was surprised by how much depth and development we got in such a short book. Sometimes thrillers that aim for realistic crime end up feeling a little too convenient or unbelievable, but this one felt grounded in a way that made me even more invested in what was happening. I also really enjoyed the structure of the chapters and the pacing. For most of the book, we get two Mary chapters followed by two Drew chapters, which gives both storylines time to develop. Then, as the mystery starts coming together and the tension ramps up, the book shifts to alternating between Mary and Drew every chapter. The chapters also become shorter, which created a much faster pace and made it incredibly easy to keep turning the pages. The ending definitely had an emotional impact on me, but it never lost the thriller element in the process. The emotional moments felt earned and added to the story rather than taking away from the suspense. The only reason this wasn't a 5-star read for me is that it ultimately felt a little "been there, done that." I've read enough thrillers to see where things were heading, and while I had a great time reading it, it wasn't one of those books that completely altered me mentally or emotionally. Still, this was an incredibly solid thriller, and I can absolutely see why so many people love it.
