Steady Now
Wren Baldwin races away from a high-rise Dallas law office, fleeing a failed relationship. It's a good plan, until her Maserati GranCabrio convertible breaks down on the way to meet her best friend on South Padre Island. She's stranded on the side of the road outside Vogel Springs, Texas.
Where? Ninety minutes from the nearest tow truck. Hudson Bass is the only man in a hundred miles who can fix her Italian-made race car, but even he has to wait on parts from Italy.
Stranded in the little down, Wren begins to see trouble brewing, and it all revolves around her handsome, brooding mechanic, who can fix everything for everybody but himself. The county wants to take his land for an electric battery manufacturing plant that will employ thousands of people, a big boost to a dying little town. Vogel Springs is divided: half want it.
Half don't. As Wren waits for her new part to arrive, learning about and falling in love with the people and the town, the dynamics change. He keeps his distance, knowing she'll never stay.' She secretly wishes, he'd ask.
Then, Wren sees a side to Hud she never imagined-and comes face to face with the fact that not all men-or fathers-are created equal.
