Lux is a spirited spitfire who literally stabs the MMC in the back. It was a bit sus how Lux never questioned her mother about why they were constantly moving to different places and never insisted she tell her who her dad was. Her mother was acting odd about her trip to NY. Lux's mom goes missing right after a phone call with Lux. So Lux goes to NY to find her mom. Matteo and Enzo have a hacker cancel her Uber and pick her up, since her father has arranged a marriage between her and Matteo without her knowing it. Surprise, her father is a mafia don, which they do a paternity test to prove. If Matteo marries her and keeps her safe, he will gain control of the port and inherit her father's business when her father retires (Matteo was going to marry the don's other daughter before this). Lux agrees to marry him so that he will find and save her mom. Matteo is fiercely protective of Lux. Lux is feisty and fierce. I enjoyed the book but something was missing. I liked this one enough to continue the series. The male narrator's accent was too exaggerated for me, typical otp NY/NJ mafioso accent you see in some movies. I’ve been avoiding her, throwing myself into work, just so I have an excuse not to go back to the penthouse and be around her during the day. That sure as hell didn’t keep me from sneaking into her room late at night just to watch her sleep, though. Like a fucking creep. The need to be close to her was strong. To see her even though she wouldn’t see me. To make sure she was okay. I’m fucking pathetic. One kiss. It took one kiss to turn me into a starved man. But that kiss. That kiss was not what I expected. “Enzo, how many jokes are you going to make about having sex with my wife?” I growl out. “Enough to make you be a damn husband and get your ass back to the penthouse instead of hiding from your wife because you realized you’re not as cold and heartless as you thought you were,” he says before hanging up on me.
