This book was super cute, but realistic. I really enjoyed that it was a sapphic sports novel that also represents disability in a beautiful but real way. It was well written and the pacing is fantastic. (And as a solid bonus, no third act break up) Darcy and Peyton are so cute, the back and forth, the banter, their friendship, I love that they did build a foundation before their relationship. And all their friendship were very entertaining. There was a really good balance between humour, college life and sports, and just real life stuff. Personally I related a lot to Darcy, especially with her having a chronic illness, it felt extremely researched and well written. She was great representation that you can be chronically ill, but still involved in the things you love, be social, have fun, and have relationships is so important. It really shows how good support and friendship is needed and it was just lovely. It was also really real, Darcy really described all the complex feelings of being a young adult and ill really well. I really like this quote for that reason: “Something most people don’t realize about living with a chronic illness is how much of it feels like failure. Not the pain. That part, I can handle. The full body aches, the stiff throbbing joints, the fatigue. That all becomes background noise after a while. A constant presence you learn to ignore best you can. But the failure? That’s harder to silence. Failure for needing to cancel plans. For taking breaks. For saying no. For needing help. It doesn’t matter how valid the reasons are, some part of me always believes I’m letting everyone down. That part is worse than the pain.”
