For a stalker romance, I did not feel much suspense while he stalked her. The emotions of this book seemed almost muted to the point of blandness at times. For all the trauma the MCs went through in the past, their feeling didn't come off the page. Vanessa was tstl at times with very little self-preservation instincts. The premise was good, and it had potential that it didn't live up to. For someone who was kidnapped at 13 and SA while held for 2 weeks, for her to go in a car with a stranger from the bar to try and draw out her stalker was beyond stupid and reckless. That her friend encouraged it was also bonkers. When her friend found out her bf firefighter, wasn't called into work like Tommy was (according to the note), why didn't they just text Carl to verify that there was a big fire that some firefighters got called to? They knew there was a dangerous person after you, why not double check with Carl or call the fire station? After all the warnings, precautions, & training about not opening the door (esp. without checking to see who was out there), it became so unbelievable that without any forethought, she just opened the door to see Barrett on the other side (without even grabbing the gun first). The dedication in the book was pretty great: For all you nasty bitches that like faceless, masked stalkers who will stop at nothing for the chance to do whatever they want to you… I’ve got a ‘hot’ one for ya Now be a good girl and spread those pages. He was my hero, but he fucked like a villain, and I loved every second of it.
