Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me
Laura Dean, the most popular girl in high school, was Frederica Riley's dream girl: charming, confident, and SO cute. There's just one problem: Laura Dean is maybe not the greatest girlfriend. Reeling from her latest break up, Freddy's best friend, Doodle, introduces her to the Seek-Her, a mysterious medium, who leaves Freddy some cryptic parting words: break up with her.
But Laura Dean keeps coming back, and as their relationship spirals further out of her control, Freddy has to wonder if it's really Laura Dean that's the problem. Maybe it's Freddy, who is rapidly losing her friends, including Doodle, who needs her now more than ever. Fortunately for Freddy, there are new friends, and the insight of advice columnists like Anna Vice to help her through being a teenager in love.
Mariko Tamaki and Rosemary Valero-O’Connell bring to life a sweet and spirited tale of young love that asks us to consider what happens when we ditch the toxic relationships we crave to embrace the healthy ones we need.

I thought I knew what I was getting in to when I picked up this GN, but it was so much more than what it looks like on the surface. In my opinion, there are 2 MC's (not including the love interest), and they go through so much pain in this GN. It was more painful than I was anticipating, really, but not in a bad way. I'm glad I got to experience their pain with them, and I'm also really happy that this touches on very serious issues. The characters are in high school, and I feel like these experiences are something very real that can happen to teenagers like this, but that our society likes to pretend doesn't exist and that won't happen. I think that's one of the reasons I loved this so much; that it talks about the hard stuff that teenagers really do go through, but that people like to pretend don't happen. That being said, there really are strong themes in this, such as abortions, cheating, and adult/minor relationship that results in unwanted pregnancy. Overall, the story made me cry, but also I feel like it comes out the other end with a strong, positive message about loving yourself and putting yourself first.
