Wow. I am speechless. While this book took me a while to get through due to the slow progression it was well worth the while. Through the book you follow three main characters. Willow Stewart, 15 born mute sent from her home to find her brother to inform him of the recent death of their newborn brother. Briar Stewart brother to Willow who has fallen into bad luck and working off 9 months of jail time in a prison camp. Last but not least Ardith Dobbs a mysterious married women on the way to have a baby. Set in 1921 right after the Spanish Flu epidemic this story bring to light the hardships we likely forget people actually went through. From the rise of the KKK to people being arrested off the streets for walking around "without a cause". Through most of the book I was thinking of rating this book 3.5 stars due to the slow pace and the lack of excitement, but after reading the last few chapters and being thrown through a whirlwind of emotions I decided it was worth more. This book was fantastic and real!
