In the Name of Honor

Courtney Collins, Clarke Collins

4.17

What would you risk to save someone you loved from a fate worse than death?

A half-elven princess, grieving the loss of one father and fearing for the other.

A loyal guardsman, torn between his oath to the king and her safety.

And a creature so bent on revenge, he'll make the world kneel to hurt them all.

Of all the messages Dimitar's carried, he now delivers the worst of all: vile Corrupted creatures have returned and murdered the king's best friend. The king leaves to seek retribution, and gives Dimitar an order he doesn't expect: guard the princess, Kaleela. When Corruptors then kidnap her father, she insists on rescuing him. Dimitar must break his vow to keep her safe in the kingdom, and together infiltrate the enemy's lair… unless the Corrupted capture Kaleela first.

Fans of epic fantasy with romance will fall into this character-driven world and thrilling new adventure, where a rescue mission turns into a chase, and only the princess or the king can be saved.

Fans of the LOTR franchise will be impressed by the stellar storytelling in this novel. In the Name of Honor is a compelling read that flawlessly merges multiple points of view, high-stakes adventure, an engaging plot, emotionally charged storylines, complex characters rich in diversity, and a well-designed world that will immediately grasp your undivided attention. It is a riveting story that touches on love, grief, revenge, courage, power, darkness, and war. Throughout Kaleela's and Dimitar's experiences, Courtney Collins and Clarke Collins effectively explore and incorporate themes like selflessness and trauma healing without diluting the action sequences. The Corruptors intrigued me the most. These beings create a welcome sense of menace, suspense, and trepidation throughout the storyline. I eagerly await the second installment of this captivating tale. -- Eric Ferrar, Readers' Favorite Five Star Award

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and to the authors, Courtney and Clarke Collins, for sending me this digital copy! Fans of Dungeons & Dragons-style questing and high fantasy tropes will really enjoy this book. And for the most part, I really enjoyed the book too. Characterization is important for me, and while I loved the comfortable dynamic that our group fell into with one another, there were certain aspects I wish would have been shown rather than blatantly told. Dimitar and Olaf’s brotherly bond is wonderful. I love the way they tease and joke with one another while simultaneously having each other’s back. On the battlefield, they move as one. Dimitar and Kaleela’s relationship, while containing a beautiful amount of longing, didn’t have me rooting for them as much as I wanted to. It’s heavily implied that Dimitar’s always had eyes for her, but again, I wish it were shown more (maybe through more flashbacks/memories/shared moments together) than told outright. Who I empathized most with was Ral. I love that funky little cheese-stealing thief. I think his character is so intriguing and his backstory is heartbreaking. I too want to swaddle him up in a cloak and keep him from harm’s way. I’m so excited to read more of him in In the Name of Pride. I think the thing I had the most trouble with though was the overall flow. Similar to D&D, our various point of views had a “Long Rest” effect to them that brought us from one point to another without much of a solid transition. This style, combined with so many POVs, had me confused more than once on what was going on. Overall, I did really enjoy the storyline though. I enjoyed the journey and couldn’t wait to see what would happen next, especially in the higher stakes situations. The visceral imagery provided for a Corruption process was just GROSS! (In a good way!) I am eager to read on and see what awaits our adventuring party in Pride, coming Jan. 27th!
