OVER 1 MILLION COPIES SOLD! NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER · GOODREADS CHOICE AWARD WINNER “I loved it." —Stephen King From Edgar Award-finalist Jason Rekulak comes a wildly inventive spin on the supernatural thriller, for fans of Stranger Things and Riley Sager, about a woman working as a nanny for a young boy with strange and disturbing secrets. Mallory Quinn is fresh out of rehab when she takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell.

She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves.

And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman’s lifeless body.

Then, Teddy’s artwork becomes increasingly sinister, and his stick figures quickly evolve into lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. Mallory begins to wonder if these are glimpses of a long-unsolved murder, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force. Knowing just how crazy it all sounds, Mallory nevertheless sets out to decipher the images and save Teddy before it’s too late.

Y'all, I think I've found a really good thriller here. I honestly really enjoyed this one! I think one of my favorite parts about this might've actually been the pictures. It got to where I was slightly worried to turn the page because I didn't know what kind of picture would be waiting on me, but I loved it. I also loved how there was actually a paranormal aspect to this instead of it changing halfway through. I also enjoyed the small romance part of this too. Mallory did annoy me a few times, but it wasn't anything major. Overall, I give this book 4.25/5 stars and I do recommend it!

*✨ 4 stars ✨* I was not expecting THAT... Fresh out of rehab, Mallory takes a babysitting job that seems almost too good to be true—until she notices the disturbing drawings of the five-year-old boy she watches. The more she uncovers, the harder it becomes to tell what’s real. Is she losing her mind, relapsing, or are these drawings somehow connected to an unsolved murder? I originally picked up this book because of the cover, and honestly? Reading the synopsis only made me more intrigued. I don’t think I’ve read anything quite like it—the setting was creepy, the artwork somehow even creepier, and the atmosphere hooked me immediately. The main character’s story in the beginning really pulled me in and laid the groundwork for the eerie tone of the entire book. For most of it, I was convinced things were heading in one direction… and then the ending completely proved me wrong. Unfortunately, that twist is also why this landed at 4 stars for me instead of 5. Part of the fun of mysteries and thrillers is trying to piece everything together before the main character does, and this ending felt a little too out-of-nowhere for me personally. That being said, once I looked back, the clues were absolutely there—especially through the artwork which was such a unique touch. ✨ Highly recommend if you love creepy atmospheres and a good twist.
