Hellbound gave me morally questionable characters, deadly trials, a murder mystery, and two people constantly trying to outmanoeuvre each other. Naturally, I had a fantastic time. Ksenia and Bohdan’s dynamic was SO good. This was not cat-and-mouse; this was cat-and-cat. Two dangerous, calculating people circling one another, both fully convinced they were the cleverest person in the room. Honestly? Adorable. The characters were complex, compelling, and probably in need of several professional interventions. I especially loved that neither lead felt weaker than the other. Their chemistry came from the fact that they could genuinely challenge each other—and perhaps murder one another if the mood struck. Overall, the story moved quickly and kept me invested. There were a few slower sections that felt unnecessarily long and information-heavy, especially compared with the pace of everything surrounding them. Some of that information may become important later, but until then, it is sitting inside my brain without supervision. And then came the ending. EXCUSE ME? The final chapters were incredibly good and left me with far more questions than emotional stability. I finished the book and immediately needed the sequel. But considering I have read this as a ARC-reader, this book is not even published yet, let alone the sequel... A very solid four-star read with excellent characters, a delicious cat-and-cat dynamic, and an ending that has sentenced me to wait impatiently for book two.
