“An all-consuming work of literary fantasy that is breathtaking both for its beauty and its suspense."—BookPage, starred review
A captivating and romantic debut epic fantasy inspired by the legend of the Chinese moon goddess, Chang’e, in which a young woman’s quest to free her mother pits her against the most powerful immortal in the realm.
Growing up on the moon, Xingyin is accustomed to solitude, unaware that she is being hidden from the feared Celestial Emperor who exiled her mother for stealing his elixir of immortality. But when Xingyin’s magic flares and her existence is discovered, she is forced to flee her home, leaving her mother behind.
Alone, powerless, and afraid, she makes her way to the Celestial Kingdom, a land of wonder and secrets. Disguising her identity, she seizes an opportunity to learn alongside the emperor’s son, mastering archery and magic, even as passion flames between her and the prince.
To save her mother, Xingyin embarks on a perilous quest, confronting legendary creatures and vicious enemies. But when treachery looms and forbidden magic threatens the kingdom, she must challenge the ruthless Celestial Emperor for her dream—striking a dangerous bargain in which she is torn between losing all she loves or plunging the realm into chaos.
Daughter of the Moon Goddess begins an enchanting duology which weaves ancient Chinese mythology into a sweeping adventure of immortals and magic, of loss and sacrifice—where love vies with honor, dreams are fraught with betrayal, and hope emerges triumphant.

I won't make this too long bc this was just not the book for me. I did not really enjoy the way the story was set up. I felt like this book was actually supposed to be three books and now it was just all stuffed into one. I felt like I did not get time to get attached to the story or to any of the characters. I can see how some people love this book and it is written in a very descriptive way which makes it feel very unique in my opinion. The ending felt very rushed too and I just really did not care of either love interest. I found it very hard to finish this book the first 50%, but the last 20% made me kinda curious to see how the story would end.

I am absolutely stunned at the sheer beauty that is this book. I am blown away by the gorgeous prose, the metaphors, the themes, the immersive and close attention to detail in every scene. The ratio between dialogue and description was excellent, although at times, there was a bit of an issue with pacing. Overall, I loved Xingyin as a main character. Her devotion to her family and determination to right the wrongs of the past drew me into her story entirely. I was so eager to see how things would play out. She felt so real in her reactions to certain things, and honorable to the very end—at least in my opinion! I could gush and gush about this book, but I won’t. Just know I thought it was incredible.
