“Why did you do it, Icarus?” From the very first page, I knew this book was going to wreck me. DAEDALUS IS DEAD is an incredible, haunting narrative of a man unable to escape his grief, his past, and his very heart. His son, his beloved Icarus, is dead, and he will stop at nothing to see him again. Even if he damns himself in the process. The myth of Daedalus and Icarus has always been special to me. Sullivan’s debut novel goes beyond basic storytelling and unwinds into a complex character study that questions where truths end and lies begin, and what defines a man versus a monster. It is an intimate recollection from a father to his son, a confession of his life’s secrets and the actions taken after death. It is not a happy story and it does not pretend to be. I loved this.
