Because this book was written so long ago, some elements feel dated — especially the idea of the whole adventure taking place on Mars. But if you imagine the story happening on an entirely different planet in a completely different solar system, it suddenly makes much more sense to a 21st-century reader. The movie adaptation definitely feels more modern in comparison. Old, but gold.
