I'm genuinely impressed by how much substance these novellas have because Devil in the Details manages to dig into things that could easily have required an entire book to unpack. A novella that can pull this off deserves something close to 5⭐️. One thing I truly appreciate about this entire series so far is the way the story uses what is happening in the present to pull Jack or Ethan, but mostly Jack, straight back into something they haven't processed nearly as well as they think they have. So each time, you’re dropped into the story without the full context and have to piece together the bigger picture through the past and present. Why is Ethan pulling away? Why is Jack angry? What happened between them to make them act this way? This is apparently exactly the kind of storytelling I needed right now because I am completely hooked. And again, emotionally, I thought this did SO much.
