Kill the Beast
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING SERIES • This exhilarating novel follows the downfall of one of Disney’s most arrogant villains: Gaston. He knew he was the best. He knew he was everyone's favorite guy.
You may think this tale as old as time has been told before. You may know about the Beauty, and the Beast, and the curse they broke together. But some stories have more than one ending.
Some stories have more than one villain. Such is the story of Gaston. Growing up, young Gaston and the prince were brothers in all but blood.
Their boyhood adventures led them throughout the many rooms of the castle, and into the deep woods beyond. The woods that were home to the legendary Beast of Gévaudan, a terrifying creature whose presence loomed larger than life in their imaginations. Then one fateful night, a violent tragedy changed their lives—and their friendship—forever, setting each of them down a very different path: the first, of greed and entitlement, the second, of determination to right the wrongs of the past.
The prince, as we know, paid a price for his wicked ways. And Gaston, fueled by the magic of three meddling witches, grew ever more haunted by a singular mission: to become the hero who killed the Beast.

*"But then he saw it, Belle's hand reaching out, but not to him. It reminded him of the statue of his mother in front of her mausoleum, reaching out her hand to him, as if beckoning Gaston to join her on the other side. And in a flash Gaston remembered. He saw the truth. He saw everything. His mind was no longer obscured in a thick fog. And all his thoughts were his own. He saw everything clearly. He saw his and the prince's story, almost like one of the books he and Kingsley had read together. He remembered his best friend, the man he loved. Like a brother. More than a brother. The man who said he had no room in his heart for anyone but him. And with the few moments he had left, before he fell to his death, Gaston hoped his friend had truly made space in his heart for someone else, and with Belle he would break the curse at last."* Y'all, I'm in pain now. I think this is one of my favorites in the series so far. I really felt so bad for Gaston and everything he went through. I've always thought there was some reason he was as determined to kill the beast besides just wanting Belle, and this definitely didn't disappoint. I genuinely loved this book so much, and it's easy to say that is's easily a 5/5 stars for me.
