Okay so.. when the book first started out, it was kind of boring. It was like it started out in the middle of like what would be chapter four or five. As the book progressed, it did a pretty good job of explaining Serafina’s backstory, which, might I add, is very interesting. I do like the fact that we see Sera and her mother reunited at the end of the book. Overall, I’d rate it a solid 4.5/5 stars. I probably won’t read it again, but I did like it. In this book, we follow a girl named Serafina, who’s lived in the Biltmore Estate with her father for all of her life. One night, she hears something rustling in the basement (where she lives), and goes to investigate it. She finds it’s someone in a black cloak who’s been taking children from their parents. When he takes the children, they vanish into the cloak, with no trace of them left behind. We see Serafina make friends with the Vanderbilts’ nephew, and we see their friendship strengthen over the course of the book. Braden (the nephew), helps her solve the mystery of the cloak. In the end, she ends up meeting Braden’s aunt and uncle, and she wins an award for catching the man in the cloak.
