Barbarian Mine
The ice planet has given me a second lease on life, so I'm thrilled to be here. Sure, there's no cheeseburgers, but I'm healthy and ready to be a productive member of the small tribe. What I didn't anticipate was that there'd be a savage stranger waiting nearby, watching me. And when he takes me...

Okay sooo… I don’t really have much to say about this one. This wasn’t one of the tropes I normally read, so I’m not sure how I actually feel about it. As this one was like.. spent mostly away from the people in the tribe, I didn’t like it that much. I liked Rukh and Harlow, but they’re not my favorite couple. Also, the one year time skip kind of threw me off. I did like the book, though. So, overall, I think I’ll give it 4/5 stars, but I probably won’t read this one again, either.

This story picks up with the scene from the last book where Rukh, knocks Harlow unconscious and takes her with him. As he approached her, he resonates for her and she for him. Harlow believes her companions have died, so she doesn't try to escape, thinking the rest of the tribe will blame her for her companions' deaths. There is a year gap starting from when they first arrive at their new home by the sea. (Their honeymoon novella gives a peek into their time a few days after they arrive at their beach cave.) She falls deeply in love with Rukh. Rukh has been on his own since his father's death when he was seven. Harlow likens him to Tarzan since he can't speak his people's language and has been on his own since he was a young child. His father warned him to stay away from the tribe and convinced him that they were bad. Rukh is so cute and adorable. He is so happy to be with Harlow; he has been alone for most of his life and is ecstatic to have someone to love and care for. He wants to ensure Harlow is loved and happy. They are content being together on their own, it isn't until they have to go back to the tribe that she realizes she does miss her friends and having the support of others to help when needed. Rukh hates being at the tribal cave, but he sees the benefit of having their help and support and realizes they are not bad at all, but good, and his father was wrong/lied. It is heartwarming to see the tribe welcome them both in and lend help and support, and even put their own lives at risk to help acquire a khui for his baby, without even being asked. The story of Rukh's family is such a sad one. That is, father was so selfish as to kidnap his mother because the chief said she didn't have to live with him after they mated the 2nd time. The father put his whole family at risk, and while trying to acquire a khui for Rukh, his mother was killed, and Raahosh was gravely injured and scarred. The father abandoned Raahosh with the tribe and told everyone Rukh died. I love this series so far; the couples from all of them give you all the feels. The couples feel such gratitude and feel that they are the luckiest in the universe for having such a wonderful mate. The MMCs are so selfless and giving, putting their mates' needs before all else; it is so sweet. The MMCs are never shy about expressing their devotion. He’s utterly devoted to me and it’s clear that I can do no wrong in his eyes. My cock aches, reminding me that I want release too, but her pleasure is far more important than mine. I love to see my Har-loh lose herself. Everything’s going to change after this moment. We’ve been so happy…I’m afraid it’s going to be ruined. “Don’t cry, beebee,” he says, breaking into English in an imitation of my words. I hold her closer, agonizing. I will die if I lose her. She is the only thing worth living for. Now that I have Har-loh, I can’t go back to the loneliness of before. I cannot bear the thought of a day without her smile, her touch, her scent. Her small, cold hands on my skin as I wake up. I will give up everything for my mate and my kit. It no longer matters what I want. All that matters is Har-loh. “Promise me we won’t change?” She burrows her face against my neck. “No matter what?” “I will tear khui from my chest before I leave you,” I tell her. “We are together. Always.” I squeeze Rukh’s hand. This can’t be easy for him. “I love you.” “You are my heart,” he says thickly. He’s come so far, and I couldn’t ask for a more attentive, thoughtful, funny, smart, handsome, intelligent mate. She holds her arms out, and I kneel down to gently hand her my son. Our son. Our child. My heart overflows with emotion. Never have I felt so content...and so utterly terrified that it will all be ripped from me. I nestle my head against his shoulder, my heart hurting. He doesn’t trust these people not to hurt him, not to destroy his fragile happiness. I get it. But at some point, he’s going to have to trust, because I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose him. Her brows furrow. “Back to the sea cave?” I shake my head. “Home. With the tribe. Together.” She bites her pink lip. “You’re staying?” Her voice is shy, full of hope. I reach out and touch her cheek. “I could never leave you. Not you, nor our son. We are a family.” Her radiant smile is better than a thousand memories of my father. He catches my hand in his and gently kisses my sensitive palm. “Har-loh, I will wait forever for you if I must. Time does not matter as long as we are together.” “We will stay. Our son will need friends. You will need the healer. And I,” he says, grazing his thumb over my mouth. “Will always need you. A male cannot exist apart from his heart.” Neither can a woman, and it’s clear that Rukh has mine.

So far, this is my favorite. I loved the tarzan/jane elements. Harlow was so sweet, gentle, and patient with Ruhk and he was utterly devoted. Im usually a pregnancy hater in books, but I liked it in this. Their backstories were dim but their future will be bright. So excited to continue with this series. (The star rating is lower than the others, despite this being my fav, because i reevaluated my rating system. i fell back into the habit of mood rating instead of thinking critically)
