Carnal Urges
From New York Times bestselling author J. T. Geissinger comes Carnal Urges, a sexy-as-sin dark romance about a powerful mafia king who kidnaps the one woman who will threaten to bring him to his knees.
Carnal (adjective):
1) Relating to the pleasures of the body
2) Given to sensual indulgence
3) The man who kidnapped me
The devil has blue eyes, an Irish accent, and a hatred for me that runs deep.
He blames me for starting a war. Consorting with his enemies. Getting his men killed. Though I’m innocent on all charges, he wants his pound of flesh. With an eye on revenge, he makes me his captive.
But as we'll both soon discover, there are more powerful urges than that for revenge.
When the devil meets his match but she’s his sworn enemy, that’s when the real war begins.

3.5 ⭐ The first 60% of the book I loved, but it went downhill after that for me. I loved the couple's dynamic, humor, chemistry, and that they were all about communicating with each other. Sloane doesn't trust men, so she has never let herself get emotionally involved until now. Sloane is brave, strong, willful, charming, fierce, feisty, caring & funny. Declan is hot, grouchy, stern, smoldering, and has a dry sense of humor & falls hard for Sloane. The audiobook is a duet narration, which I enjoyed. The Good: • The witty banter between Sloane & Declan - This was so fun & hilarious to read. Each is trying to one up the other with quick witted comebacks • Sloane's reactions to being kidnapped and her kidnappers fearless and crazy • Main characters - I liked them both; their interactions in the first half of the book are fantastic. She doesn't know what to make of her, and she drives him crazy, but loves it deep down. • Declan - doesn't fall for her charms like all other men, exasperated by her attitude and mouthiness The Bad: • The smut wasn't great. Which is too bad since the sexual tension before they slept together was terrific. The BDSM was not working for me; it was rather repetitive & cringey. • Some plot points were weird, like who makes an innocent civilian work for the FBI against their will by threatening to kill them and their loved ones. That is just asking for them to turn against you. She’s kind. She worries about other people. She notices their pain. She empathizes—even with her fucking kidnapper. She’s also funny. Funny, quick-witted, and smart. She knows Epictetus, for fuck’s sake, and nobody knows him. Worst of all, she’s completely unflappable. It’s like her superpower. She wakes up in bed with me beside her, and her reaction is a yawn. A fucking yawn. Who is this woman? I forgot. She’s not a woman. She’s a raging banshee who eats men’s sanity for supper. There’s not a man on earth whose will to live she couldn’t break. “You’re safe with me. You can let your guard down. I’ll catch you if you need to fall.” “You can’t hide from me. I see you. I see all the strange and wonderful things you are, little lion.” “So before you ask for my trust, think carefully. Because if I give it to you, it means I’m yours. And you’re mine. For good. There’s never any getting out of that, even if you asked me to. Even if it got to be too much and you wanted to run away.” His voice drops. His gaze drills into mine. “Because I take the words ‘until death do us part’ literally.” Because up till now, you haven’t met a man who knew how to handle you. Who could see what you are behind that ivory tower you’ve built around your heart. But I see you. And I know you’re scared seven shades of shite to let me in. “I can’t convince you to. That’s a leap you have to make yourself. And I can promise you that it’ll be messy. You, me, what that would mean to everyone else … messy. But worth it, at least in my opinion. “And who thinks you’re the most precious angel in the world?” I swallow, suddenly fighting tears. His voice is so warm and full of feeling, and all at once, I’m overwhelmed. With a hitch in my voice, I whisper, “Y-you.” His lips brush my ear. “Aye, baby. And all I am is yours now, so take care of this monster you’ve enslaved.” I’ve never felt like this about anyone. I’ve never lost myself, or wanted to lose myself like I want to lose myself in you. And I’ve never trusted a man, including my father. So if you break my heart, gangster, just know that you’ll be the first and last to do it. Nobody before you has ever been able to even scratch it, and nobody will be able to pick up the shattered pieces behind you if you leave.”
