The story was there, the tropes were there, the MMC said all the right things, yet it left me feeling not a whole lot, sadly. I should have had all the feels from this story. Maybe it was a case of show us and not tell us of their emotions, or if it was just something else, just missing that it didn't elicit the feelings a story like this normally would. I liked how we didn't know right away how they met briefly 4 years ago when it was alluded to. I also enjoyed the stalking aspect and how he tricked her into thinking it wasn't him, until much later when she figured it out. That he used the stalker guise to get closer to her and protect her was also great. I loved Sante/Isaac's character, but something was missing for me and it really annoyed me that this was the case. I wanted to love this: it had a stalker, mafia, and an MMC that would burn the world for her to keep her safe...... “You chose me, Amelie. And that’s a decision that can never be undone.” I want Amelie Brooks to feel as helpless without me as I feel without her. “Sorry to burst your bubble, but that’s not how this works. You chose me. I chose you. We haven’t fucked, but that’s only because I want you to get to know me first. We can skip ahead, though, if it means you start to understand that you’re mine.”. “You have no idea how committed I am. If you did, you’d be the one running.” The thought of having someone at my back, no matter how rough the seas—someone who regards me above all others—sounds like a dream, not a nightmare. “Tell me you won’t let another man touch you.” His words are raw with desperation. “So long as I don’t give you a reason to leave, I need to know that this—” I’ve fantasized about how it would feel for someone to look at me with the same degree of unguarded desire as I see in Isaac’s stare. Like I am the center of his entire universe. Surely, no greater feeling exists. If I’m going to lose my fucking mind over a woman, I’m not settling for scraps. I will own all her hopes and fears—her secrets will be my secrets—and she will be my purpose on this earth. That’s where this madness has taken me. Nothing else seems to exist beyond my need for Amelie. He’s not at all what I thought I wanted, yet he’s everything I need. He pushes me out of my comfort zone without risking harm and accepts me exactly as I am. He’s also domineering, possessive, and a tiny bit unhinged. “I wasn’t joking when I said I’m going to marry you. You’re mine. That means I’ll protect you at all costs. It also means I have the rest of my life to fuck you in every position imaginable, and I plan for us both to live very long, healthy lives. There is absolutely. No. Rush. Understand?” “No, so you’d love me in spite of it all,” he roars. “Because this is who I am.” He slaps a palm against his chest. “I will track you and mark my body with your name and annihilate every one of your enemies. I won’t hide that from you and trick you into thinking you’ve married some motherfucking Prince Charming because I’m not. I’m the villain, and I want you to love me anyway.” If he feels like something will upset me and he can fix it without causing me worry, he’ll take that option every time. What I can trust is that he’ll keep me safe and devote himself to my happiness every day of his life. “I don’t ever want to know life without you.” He stills, bringing our gazes back together. “Tell me you’ll be my wife. Tell me you’ll be mine forever.”
