Obsessed

Serena Akeroyd

4.25

Phoebe Whitehouse is not just my student—she's my obsession. I eat, sleep, and breathe her.

One day, she slips up, and I have my in. At long last, I can own her. She's mine to punish and to pleasure. I don't care if I lose my job as a tenured professor over her. I don't care if I destroy my life or hers. I'm obsessed, and she doesn't know it yet, but I'm never letting her go.

As this is a dark taboo bully romance, please take into consideration the following trigger warnings: stalking, dub con, infant death by SIDS, death of a parental figure, alcohol abuse, and child neglect.

Obsessed was previously published as The Professor, but it has been heavily edited and extended.

Nicholas sees Phoebe on campus & starts stalking her, which is more of watching, protecting & following her around in public places only. More of a light stalking than other books I have read, he surprisingly doesn't know much about her life. He blackmails her into "interacting" with him, which their relationship from this drums up the sexual tension between the two. The relationship is a very slow burn. It never made too much sense why he thought he couldn't be with her & that he was a monster (it does explain why later in the book, but the reasoning to me wasn't sound enough). I would have liked to see a deeper emotional development build up into love, but overall, an enjoyable, fast-paced book. A couple of quotes from Nicholas that made me giggle: "Stalking wasn't easy. People didn't give credit to stalkers & they should, that level of dedication couldn't be bought." "I wanted to tell her she was never leaving here. But that would make me sound like a kidnapper. I wasn't that bad yet." The audio narration was excellent.
