When She Purrs

Ruby Dixon

4.61

Life on a farm planet at the edge of the universe can be dangerous for a human woman alone. That's why I need a husband. Any husband.

Unfortunately, all the men I approach keep running off. So I hire a bounty hunter to kidnap me someone capable and strong, someone who will scare off the creeps that are trying to move in on my territory.

It'll be a marriage of convenience only.

I should have been a little more specific about who I wanted, though . . . because the intimidating and fierce praxiian male that the bounty hunter brings to me? The one with feline features, big arms, and an even bigger . . . uh, farm?

He's the problem I was hoping a new husband would scare off. What am I supposed to do now?

(Don't ask him, because all of his suggestions are completely and utterly filthy and have nothing to do with a marriage of convenience.)

I've never said this about one of Dixon's books before, but it was a touch too long, normally I bemoan them being so short, but this was a bit too drawn out. Still highly enjoyable though. Kim is a human who was kidnapped from Earth and sold into slavery. Years later, she was bought and given farm land to run on Risa III. She thinks her neighbor is threatening & harassing her, so she hires a bounty hunter to kidnap a husband for her, to protect her and her land. She is a bit self-absorbed and selfish at times. Nassakth, her neighbor, is Praxiian, a cat/humanoid alien & neighbor. He overhears her request of the bounty hunter and volunteers to be kidnapped; he likes Kim and is interested in courting her. He used to be a slave as well, a gladiator. But he is sweet, patient, and tries hard to woo Kim. He has been trying to keep her safe from unscrupulous men for a while now without her knowledge. The bounty hunter is a fun side character. I enjoyed seeing the brothers from the ship The Little Sister and look forward to reading that series.
