3.5⭐ It was sweet to read about the beginning of their romantic relationship. Though it was tough to read about when Alina was taken and what she endured. This story was far more emotional than the previous books. That she was able to hang on because she knew her brother & Matvey would never give up looking for her was incredible. Matvey feels guilty because he was 20 minutes late meeting her that day she was abducted, and believes that if he hadn't been, she would never have been taken. Constantine was an absolute monster, and he got what was coming to him. Matvey loves her and never wants to be apart again, he is so sweet, gentle, and patient with her. They both feel guilty for things when they shouldn't. Matvey never even looked at another woman and saved himself for her. When she is telling him how she fought Constantine but couldn't take beatings anymore and stopped fighting, but felt so guilty and felt she was betraying him by not fighting back anymore, I felt so bad for both of them. I cried when Alina told Dominic about seeing his sister at the auction Sadly, this was my least favorite of the series, which I was not expecting. I thought it would be the most poignant of the series, yet it just felt so long and drawn out, with not much happening. I kept waiting for something to happen, like the other shoe was about to drop, but nothing happened. Though I am so happy that Alina & Matvey finally got their HEA. Alina may be the one who’s been in love with me her whole life, but there’s no denying that I’ve more than caught up with her. What was once a sweet, platonic love for one of my best friend’s younger sisters has morphed into something very, very different. I tried to fight it at first, afraid that Roman would be pissed or that it was somehow wrong to love the woman I’d watched grow up, but I’m quickly losing my will to fight this. “I love you, and nothing you could tell me will change that. If you decide you don’t want to be with me, then I’ll stay in your life as your friend and hope like hell you change your mind one day, but I will never be with anyone else, because for me, it’s you or nothing. It’s always only ever been you, Alina.” “But he’s ruined me.” “No, baby.” “He’s made me filthy.” “Never.” He kisses my forehead, keeping my face cupped in his scarred palms. “You are perfect, so fucking perfect, and nothing will ever change that. When I look at you, I don’t see him. I don’t see what he did to you. I see the woman I love more than life itself, the woman I would happily walk through fire to be with, and the woman I refuse to live without.”
