Straik Ruth Ruth remembers being kidnapped from Earth by aliens, then awoken from stasis pods with a few other humans. They have been living on a ship that was abandoned by the crew. They have been surviving by tricking other ships to board, then stealing supplies from them. Lord Straik and the Va Sithai (who are Corsairs, space pirates) were looking for the ship for the so called treasure on board. The ship is one owned by Straik's family and was lost years ago. Ruth sneaks aboard Straik's ship to spy on him, but she is in for a shock when he leaves the Va Sithai brothers back on the ship with her friends to figure out what to do with the cargo on board. Ruth messes with him before he discovers she stowed away on his ship. There is a lot of angry flirting between the two. Their relationship is a slow burn. It takes Ruth far too long to see what kind of person Straik really is, when it is obvious he isn't a villain. She thinks before acting, and if he wasn't a good guy, he would have killed her or worse for her actions. He loves sparring with her and trying to figure out what she is up to. He even likes that she takes control sometimes and allows her to be in charge sometimes to give her the feeling that she has some control over her life, given that in the past she had none. She's being far too amenable. I don't trust it. Or her. How does she go from spitfire and hellion to soft, gentle thing after a single meal? Either I need to keep her stuffed with sweets constantly to bring out her good side, or it's a trick. To everyone else in the universe, she is a spitting, angry hellion. But here she is, soft in my arms, letting me touch her and take care of her. It fills me with so much pride and joy, and I want to do more for her. "Want…you to feel special," he manages between breathless pants. "You make me feel like there's no one else in the universe when we're together. I want to repeat the favor." "You don't understand, Ruth. Before I met you, I didn't feel anything…for anyone. It's not your face I'm in love with. It's you. It's your temper, and your stubbornness, and the way you curl against me at night. It's your sweet tooth." He tips my chin up and kisses my mouth. "It's your love of a good bath and your lousy aim with a knife." "I'm going to shoot anyone that tries to keep me from my husband," I seethe to Dopekh and Erzah as I slam a stun cartridge into my blaster. I don't want to kill anyone, but they'd best believe I'm about to stun the shit out of some bitches if they try to stop me from getting to my husband.
