The story is pretty unique and enjoyable. Simon is totally insane and a total bastard for wanting to turn Cora into a doll. I am not a fan of his at all, though he is an entertaining character for sure. I felt bad for Cora with her chronic pain and what Simon & the faire want to do to her. This gives off a very eerie feel, great for the fall. It is told in third person, which I have become so accustomed to dual pov of late, it was hard initially to get immersed, but after a bit of time, I did. The audiobook was good; it didn't add to or detract from the story. He was, like she supposed the devil would be, fiendish and cruel—but alluring. She knew she was attracted to him on a surface level. But the threats of violence, Trent being in danger, and the fact that he was a supernatural, immortal, murdering lunatic kind of tipped the scales out of his favor. He was monstrous. He was wicked. He was beautiful. He watched her with those fiendishly colored eyes, and she saw desire in them. She saw mischief. She wanted to know what he was planning…because she might want it a little bit, too. He smiled. “Oh, but I can. Usually, I don’t take unwilling children. I hate the whining. And I have plenty of people who come to me because they want me to solve their problems. But for you, tasty, sweet, delicious Cora—for you, I’ll make an exception.” He grinned. “Are you ready, cupcake?” He had found her weeping on the ground, looking for all the world like a stray cat in the rain. He hated seeing her like that. And hated that he hated it. It should have amused him. Instead, it made him anxious. And so, he paced. Oh. This isn’t a passing fancy or a little spot of lust, is it? I really do want her, don’t I? This is problematic. He laughed hard. “I never cease to disappoint myself.” He was never one to deny himself something he wanted. Ever. If there was a cookie in a jar, it was his. And Cora was a tempting morsel, indeed. You have a piece of me, Cora. It’s only fair that I get an equal value in exchange, isn’t it? That settled it. The girl belonged to him. He was going to take her under his wing, show her the ropes, and entertain himself with her while he figured out how to consume her and reclaim his missing part. And if he could convince her to be his in the process, all the better.
