This book was such a mess. It had potential to be a cozy, magical read, but instead, it felt like it was trying to be too many things at once - romance, family drama, mystery, fantasy - and it didn’t do any of them particularly well. There was almost no background given on Sadie and Jake’s past relationship, so I had no real reason to care whether they got back together or not. The same goes for Sadie’s family issues - I felt like I was being thrown into the middle of the drama without enough context to actually be invested. This book didn’t know what it wanted to be, and that lack of direction made it frustrating to read. It overpromised and underdelivered, and it ended up being nothing more than a waste of time.
