Another enjoyable book by S J Tilly. Sterling owned a mountain lodge cabin resort. The old handyman hired his replacement, who, Sterling thought to be a man, turns out to be Courtney, who is very much a woman, one that Sterling was immediately attracted to, which is why he tried to send her on her way. Courtney, however, is in dire straits and needs this job; she is almost out of money with no other place to live. She works hard and doesn't complain in order to keep her job, since Sterling, upon realizing she was female, tried to revoke the job offer. Courtney has been on her own since she was old enough to move out of her mother's trailer. She has only been able to scrape by in life and has never had anyone to rely on or to lend a helping hand. Sterling inadvertently made Courtney's first few days there miserable, but when he discovers it, he immediately rectifies the situation and feels horribly guilty. He is gruff & brooding, but also kind and caring & protective. Courtney is sweet, hard working, lonely & loves to talk to anything. How she talks to and dresses up her cactus is so cute. They make a great couple, and it was heartwarming to see two people who needed someone find each other.
