  I went into this really wanting to love it, but it didn't quite live up to its potential imo. The worldbuilding was pretty solid as an urban fantasy with a blend of magic and curses on the West Coast USA. I was a little confused by the magic system and what exactly Eim bloodlines can do since it was varied and vague. I was instantly interested in where Harlan, the FMC, was going with this quick job to pay her rent and hopefully fix her life. Wald, as the MMC, was simultaneously hot and infuriating. What do you mean he's ancient and has the communication skills of a mortal? The dialogue started to feel a bit repetitive with Wald constantly saying that he can't tell her, only to tell her anyways. I just wish there had been more depth beyond the push-pull dynamic with Harlan and Wald. The ending wasn't bad but it wasn't all that satisfying after everything they went through. Everything wrapped up in the last 10% and it just felt rushed. Like all that tension and buildup resolved way to quickly and cleanly. Not a bad read, just not one that fully hooked me. If you’re into cursed lovers, gothic atmospheres, and a touch of dark magic, it might still be worth a shot.
