This one was a bit of a slow burn for me. Literally and figuratively. The first 25-30% really dragged and I kept waiting for something big to happen. It wasn’t bad, but the pacing was glacial, and it took a while before the plot truly began to unfold. Once it did, though, I was hooked. The story feels like two different books in one, which ended up being kind of a treat! The first is all regency-inspired vibes full of courtly manners, ballrooms, and an arranged marriage. The second half dives right into darker fantasy territory: enemies to lovers, fated mates, and shifters. I loved the shift once things started unraveling. We get to see Evelyne develop between both parts into a fierce heroine and watch how her dynamic with Alaric and Kaldrek evolved throughout of the story. Overall, it’s a beautifully written fantasy with strong characters and atmosphere, if you can make it through the early slow pacing. I’m definitely excited to see where book two takes things! Thank you to The Nerd Fam for the gifted eARC. #abloodveileddescent #thenerdfam
