  The audiobook for this is phenomenal. This is definitely a suspenseful book with yet another cliffhanger at the end. Damon seems to like Avery a bit now. Some of the secrecy is revealed in this book. Man, I feel bad for Avery and Damon, especially. The more I hear about Damon's past, the sadder and angrier I feel on his behalf. Christopher's role in this is pretty interesting. So far Theo is my favorite, Damon is growing on me, and of course, I like Grey. *Grey: Who needs violence to control people when you can control their minds and emotions? That's the thing about people here—Avery, especially—they are not in control of their emotions. They think that they are, but if that were the case, they never would have set foot inside Lilydale. If you can manipulate them, you can do anything. It's why I don't fear anything—why I don't feel sadness. It's weak, pathetic… some emotions do not deserve recognition. I don't care if we're supposed to be human—some make us vulnerable, and the second that happens, you give people the opportunity to control you. Which is why I love to control. Sure, I could lay hands on people. But eventually, we have the mental power to block out physical pain. Psychologically being in charge? That's much harder to fight.* *Grey: I'm fucking possessive. I'm dangerous. I'll fucking kill for what's mine. And that extends to her.* Grey : You make me kill for you, you make me want to die for you. I'll burn this whole place down to ashes and paint you with them like the muse you are." Theo "You're my only reason for anything. And I think you're theirs, as well." I love Damon like a brother but Avery is my everything—my life, my death, my destruction.
