A well done dark romance rom-com, filled with moments to make you laugh and a few to make you squirm. This was a fun book to read, though a little gory at the beginning. Oakley is a journalist. She is out to get the man who was responsible for her father being framed and her parents' deaths. Oakley's obsession with candy was quite humorous. Xander's obsession with organization was pretty funny, especially when he reorganized her candy stashes. He is nerdy and adorably awkward. Oakley definitely has a screw loose or two; her reaction when she figures out she is being watched/stalked. Xander breaks the Hemlock's society rules for her. And becomes adorably protective of her. I can't wait to read the books on the rest of the merry little band of serial killers. But I can’t bear her thinking I’m that kind of creep. I’m a professional. A gentleman stalker, if such a thing exists. Focus, Rhodes. You have an actual target. A legitimate operation. A purpose that doesn’t involve becoming obsessed with a woman who just caught you spying on her and, instead of calling the police like a normal person, has turned it into some sort of deranged courtship ritual. God help me, I think I’m in love. We’re the Fight Club of murder. The first rule is you don’t talk about it. Ever. The second rule is you don’t fall for nosy journalists with a death wish and legs that make you forget your own name. Not that I’ve been watching her that closely. That would be creepy. And I’m not a creep. I’m just...detail-oriented. “I’ve never met anyone like you. Never been drawn to someone the way I am to you. It terrifies me and thrills me at the same time. You make me remember I’m alive.” “Who did this to you?” My voice emerges sounding alien. Quiet, deadly. “When I saw those men in your apartment,” he continues, “I realized I would burn this entire city to ash before letting them touch you again.” “Are we keeping her? Like a pet journalist? Because I am here for this plot twist.” “Were you willing to die for me back there?” He pauses, not meeting my eyes. “Yes.” “Why?” “Because you’re mine.” His voice catches on the word, as if surprised by his own admission. “Mine to watch, mine to protect...” He swallows hard. “Mine to fuck, mine to love.” “We’re both insane,” I whisper against his lips. “Clinically speaking, probably,” he agrees, the hint of a smile in his voice. “Though I prefer to think of it as uniquely compatible forms of damage.” “You’re mine, Oakley,” I whisper against her lips. “To love and to cherish. And I’m yours. You can have everything. My life, my heart. Everything.”
