4.5 ⭐- rounded up for the stellar narration of Corvin King as the Big Bad Wolf I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved how for half the book you were left wondering about many mysteries, and we were fed small clues throughout. This left me constantly wondering what the answers were to the many questions that came up. So many questions: what is Red & why does she not have any magical powers, why did the tattoo artist insist on putting a wolf's face peeking out from the flower tattoo, why does Brexley not have a pack, who is Jameson & why does he want Gigi killed, has Gigi been lying to Red, where is Gigi, why & who is after Red? It was comical how horny red would get if someone even touched her. Brexley has a tragic past, and to protect himself, he doesn't allow connections to form with anyone. Feelings for Red keep creeping up on him, and he tries his best to hold them at bay and deny their existence, but alas, he can't for long. Though at times Red doesn't seem grateful for his protection, without him, she would not have been kidnapped or worse numerous times. It was interesting that so little was known in their world about werewolves in fact, Brexley didn't know that they had already mated, so he tried to avoid it for nothing. What is she? My senses hiss at me, demanding I find out. She smells like nothing I’ve encountered before, not mage, witch, or Were. Whatever it is, it is a siren to me. If I were less controlled, I’d tackle her on the bed and run my nose all over her body until I could make sense of this mystery. I'm the Big Bad Wolf, and I’m going to eat you right up, little girl. “You think I can’t handle you? Pet, I’m the only one who can.” In fact, it’s growing to be so much more of a problem than I anticipated. I want to gather her back in my arms, nuzzle her neck, and kiss her softly. Resisting the urge causes me physical pain. I’m more than a little confused. My heart squeezes and yearns to the point of pain, but I’m not sure what for. Brexley, my brain whispers. The world can’t contain all her ferocity, her intensity, and desire. But I can. I want all of it so badly. I want her to overwhelm me with her fears, her feelings Holy faefucks. I think I’m in love. Oh fuck. Oh fuck, no. I slam the doors down on my emotions. Emptying my face of any expression, I can’t let her know something is up. I am a lone wolf. Attachments mean certain death. I am not in love. I can’t be in love. But to be sure, I start to shut my emotions down, one by one. Red’s expression shutters into confusion, and I realize she can see I’m changing before her eyes. "You're so under my skin. I thought I could get you out, but I can't. When I leave you, it's painful. It's too painful." His eyes search mine, and I realize he's trying to tell me something. "It hurts me too." I confess. I felt it. When he leaves, a pressure builds around my chest the longer he is gone. But where his words were sharp as knives at times, his actions were so much louder. Getting me my favorite table, being kind to my friends, helping me study, and fae lords, even the way he treats my rabbits. A werewolf taking care of my little house rabbits? It's ridiculous! Ridiculously adorable. The Big Bad Wolf cares for me.
