3.5⭐️ This did feel a little middle grade in parts, and some of the descriptions were a bit long & repetitive, but I chose to round up because this was a debut and apparently the author wrote it so her children could read it together with her? Which I think is adorable! I actually think this author has huge potential, the scenes with more action were written so well and I was honestly so entertained during them. I think Horton needs to delve deeper into these scenes though because they do go by quite fast. Also kinda love the king of caelum and the way he has been portrayed as hard faced, but then you see that slip around his daughter. You can defo see a softer side in there and I can’t wait to see where the story takes him. Lowkey my favourite character. One thing I love about our FMC, Cate, is that she isn’t portrayed as super naive and silly, she’s actually shown in such an authentic way, struggling with anxiety and such real flaws, so she is quite relatable to the audience this book is intended for. Overall, it was a nice little story and I’ll definitely read the next one
