I liked this book less than the first one; I grew a little tired of their constant jumping around <spoiler>through conveniently placed portals, even if the locations themselves were very cool (and the concept of Yvlcon is hilarious).</spoiler> As a result, the story seems more like a collection of vignettes rather than having a cohesive narrative. <spoiler>The whole Xander storyline seems unnecessary.</spoiler> But I still love the writing style, the humour, and the characters. The romance halted a little too much even for a slow burn; there is a feeling the author is doing it deliberately to have emotional material for the third book. But again, I loved all the scenes they had with each other. <spoiler>The potion-induced one in the vampire lair was pure sin. Pining is heart-tugging. The interrupted confessions are enraging and hilarious.</spoiler> Overall, I feel this book would benefit from a little bit of shaving but I still love this story!
