Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he's pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he's never met.

Incredibly funny and poignant, this twenty-first-century coming-of-age, coming out story—wrapped in a geek romance—is a knockout of a debut novel by Becky Albertalli.

This is a really good book for anyone who likes the awkward teenage romance. I watched the movie before I even realised there was a book. So obviously I already knew who Blue was and the general events of the movies. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because of where the book started. I would have liked to see how Simon felt when he found Blues original post and how it everything progressed from there. The original emails are at the back of the book but I find that even when I have read them they didn’t really add anything so it was okay. I just would have like to see what Simons thought process was when he he was first emailing Blue.
