4.5⭐️ I loved this book, Nico and Will are so adorable and they work so well together! I enjoyed going back to camp Jupiter and seeing some old faces again

I enjoyed the book, but I cannot rate it above a 3.75 or a 4 stars at the highest. I love the cheesiness of the story and am satisfied with its ending, but I am really having trouble getting behind certain changes in characterization in this book. Namely, Dionysus. Nico has definitely changed too, but his changes are more justifiable (if also a little cheesy, as he is morphing into the "stereotypical gay") Dionysus is a grumpy god who is bitter with his placement at Camp Half-Blood. This is something widely established through most of the Percy Jackson books. Yes, he does not get close due to the mortality of demigods, yada yada yada, but he is so jokey in this book that the character no longer feels like him. Why is he winking at his "favorite troublemakers"? It's something I've noticed a lot in his more recent works. He is adapting these beloved characters into their TV-show counterparts, erasing the very identities that made them so iconic in the first place. My other big gripe with this book? Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro are trying so hard to be up to date with the trends, referencing memes and new music continuously throughout the book. This goes against the fact that demigods are not supposed to be able to interact with technology without attracting unwanted attention. Why are we talking about Moo Deng? Or Beyonce's "Texas Hold 'Em"? It's been bad enough having been subjected to all the Taylor Swift references in "The Trials of Apollo"... (I am not a Swiftie) Hater arc aside, I did really like this book minus those two things. I am loving the influx of new age demigods, the major shifts of life in CHB versus Camp Jupiter, and the classic sass of our beloved Ghost King. A good time overall.
