Rival Darling
New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Moody's YA ice hockey rom-com—the first of the BookTok sensation Darling Devils series—will warm your heart!
She has a (fake) date with a Devil . . .
When Violet is left heartbroken by the captain of her school’s ice hockey team, she vows never to date a jock again. But to prove she’s moved on, she turns to the most unlikely person: her ex’s biggest rival, the notorious captain of the Ransom Devils.
Reed Darling is gorgeous, mysterious, and intimidating—the only thing people love to talk about more than his hockey skills are his exploits as a ruthless heartbreaker and bad boy. Who better to serve as Violet’s fake boyfriend until her ex gets the message, right?
But Violet soon starts to wonder if there’s more to Reed than the gossip suggests. And Reed is determined to win her over and show her he’s not the guy everyone thinks he is. Is this jock about to break all her rules?

I was smiling the whole way through reading this, it is so damn cute! The writing style made it feel so addictive and the romance was perfect. I usually don’t enjoy fake dating and I rarely rate YA 5 stars, but this was 6 stars for the vibes alone, it just made me so happy whenever I picked it up. I read 80% of it today, which says it all since I’ve been in an awful slump since July. I absolutely loved Reed, he was the biggest softy and Violet is the luckiest FMC, the way he sacrificed everything for her and was so down bad from the beginning🥹 This is one of my first YA romance reads (I read a couple of those really sad ones like A Thousand Boy Kisses, but they didn’t feel at all similar), and I think I actually prefer the fact that the romance is so tame. It means we get much more character development and more of those swoon worthy moments, rather than them jumping into bed 50% into the book, and not getting back out of it until the epilogue. I really don’t understand all of the negative reviews that reference his figure skating, i think people forget that this is YA, it’s going to be a bit silly and unserious at times, but that just adds to the charm for me. Anyways, I thought it was adorable, but maybe I’m just a sucker for Reed Darling, he can do no wrong🤭
