I was surprised by this! I heard some mixed reviews, so I went in with lowered expectations, but this ended up being pretty good. The fae lore is intricate yet not overwhelming, and the magic system pulls you right in. Humans have no magic and sit at the lowest rung of society with very few rights. Lore, the FMC, is determined to find magic for herself to help her people, and after an earthquake devastates her village, she's thrust into the heart of the fae court. Her solace in the dangerous fae castle is the enchanted library where no fae can enter. The romance adds some tension, but it feels rushed, and the tone shifts between a whimsical YA-style to some spicier scenes, which feel mismatched. Still the plot twists and magic system keep the story engaging and the last few chapters kept me engaged and ready to pick up book 2 asap! Overall, if you enjoy intricate worldbuilding, a strong FMC, and don't mind a lower spice romance as a series opener, then this is worth a read.
