6/5 ⭐ I’ve just finished what has to be one of the best books I’ve ever read. I went into this fairly blind. I preordered it from Waterstones after hearing that fans of Game of Thrones would love it. I’m easily influenced… My God, did it deliver. This book has everything: rich lore, deep history, complex and compelling characters, a world that feels truly lived in, and plenty of schemes, plots, and politics. In This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me, we follow Maggie as she is dropped into the world of her favourite book series. Maggie is like everyone’s favourite ogre—she has layers. From the very beginning, I was rooting for her and her little family of misfits. Kair Toren is far from an easy place to survive, yet Ilona Andrews made me wish I had been the one transported there. I’m honestly considering starting this again immediately because I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters or this world. However, Ilona Andrews could do the funniest thing and leave this trilogy as a two-book series (ikyk if you’ve read the book).
