4.5 ⭐ I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a very slow burn, but there was a lot of interaction between the couple right from the beginning. The side characters were great and brimming with personality. Nico was a little different from the typical mafia MMC; he tended to be more understanding and forgiving (he had most of the typical traits as well, jealous, possessive & protective). I liked how Elena was able to be herself around Nico, as she never was able to with anyone else. You could feel the couple's connection and how they evolved as the book progressed. So jealous and mad that she didn't listen to him, he pushes her into the pool; at the time, he is engaged to her sister. "I would make this girl want me, need me, love me, because fuck if I was going it alone." “I swear to God, Elena, if I find out you’ve let some man touch you, I will deliver his hands to you in a box.” I swallowed. “And I do not. Fucking. Bluff.” “I said I’ll never hurt you, Elena, but if I find out you’ve touched another man, there is nothing in this world that could save him.” “Don’t blame me for your psychosis.” “You are my psychosis.”

Revisiting The Sweetest Oblivion feels like slipping back into a world I never wanted to leave. Danielle Lori has a gift for crafting dark, magnetic romances, and this book is the perfect example. From the moment Niko enters the page, he commands it—intense, possessive, and surprisingly hilarious, he’s the kind of male lead I can’t get enough of. Elena challenges Niko in all the right ways, and their dynamic is both fiery and addictively fun. The chemistry between them is electric. Their banter? Flawless. Their tension? Off the charts. And don’t even get me started on the pool scene—it's been seared into my brain since my first read three years ago and hasn’t left since. What makes this book truly shine is not just the central romance, but the vibrant cast of side characters. I know Gianna is a divisive character, but I personally adore her—she’s fierce, unpredictable, and I’m beyond excited to dive into her story. Also, if Danielle ever writes books for Tony and Sebastian, I will devour them without hesitation. The Sweetest Oblivion is everything I want in a mafia romance: intense love, sharp wit, and unforgettable characters. No wonder it’s one of my all-time favorites.
