I went back and forth on the rating for this book so many times. It was such a slow burn so if that’s what you are into then this book is definitely for you. I know slow burn is her style which is why I don’t read her books too often but there wasn’t enough tension and interaction between the characters in the beginning for me. Overall it was a sweet and cute book and I did enjoy it but the third act breakup really annoyed me because it seemed so pointless. The MMC didn’t have any reason to get upset with her and with what happened a couple chapters later with her moms remains being found after all these years there was already enough drama to keep you invested in the ending. It just felt super out of character to me and I wish it wasn’t added in. I don’t know why most romance authors think they NEED to add a third act breakup that doesn’t add anything to the storyline especially when they are going to clear up in one chapter. When it feels authentic to the story and moves it along yes but that wasn’t the case with this book. 🌶️ 2/5 only one scene right at the end but it wasn’t closed door. (Another Mariana Zapata staple)

I don't regret losing sleep to finish this book in one day. Aurora was kind and fluffy, and she was just a ray of sunshine you'll see peeking through the clouds on a super cloudy day. Always there even at the darkest of days. She had weathered so much and yet she stood strong. And Rhodes was sigh lovely and strong and protective. I love a good romance story just as the other person does, but I also love it more if there is a deeper and more complicated story and characters around it. I love how Zapata's lead characters are so done with shit happening to them but also don't crumble into pieces when a small storm hit them. I love how we still see layers upon layers of love. It wasn't just about romance, it was about family, friendship, and self-respect too. Off to my next book about 'love' then!
