On Wings of Blood
What do you get if you mix Harry Potter with Fourth Wing, Zodiac Academy, a dash of Arthurian legend, and lots and lots of vampires? Bloodwing Academy. I didn't sign up for this. A half-fae in a school of highblood vampires? That's a recipe for torment. I'm Medra Pendragon—last of the dragon...

Really enjoyed the story, loved the characters and loved the plot. It had potential to be my new obsession, but it was just not quite there. I loved the academy setting and I think this book set up very nicely for the second book. The story held me invested and entertained the entire time. Whenever I was not reading it, I was surely thinking about reading it and figuring out how the story would continue. One thing that annoyed me: I really would have loved the dragons to be part of the story sooner. Bummed that we needed to wait till the last paragraph for a dragon to show up. It kinda gave me the feeling that this entire book is more focused on worldbuilding and giving context, rather than starting the story itself. Other than that, I do not have a lot of point to mentioning in this review. I am very excited to see if the second book will indeed pick up and gives us a little more!

Original review: What a wild ride! At the start I was a little confused, it felt like I’d missed a whole story before the first chapter, however that confusion soon disappeared as more parts of the story were revealed. I instantly liked Medra and I caught on to Regan’s motives fairly quickly, the story was really good and I can’t wait to read the next book. 2nd read: The audiobook was incredible, I loved the narrators, the story remains incredible and I think I love it even more after the second time 3rd read: Rereading in anticipation for the final instalment, I still adore Medra so much and I’ve noticed a few new things while reading that link to stuff from later books 👀

A huge thank you to the publisher for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest thoughts. ★ ★ ★ ★ ½ On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn is an addictive and fast-paced read, perfect for fans of school settings like Fourth Wing or Harry Potter. Medra is a strong protagonist you root for instantly, while Blake slowly grows on you despite the bully romance trope (not usually my favorite). The world building is rich, with plenty of mysteries left for future books. I can’t wait for book two!
