This book grabbed my attention right from the start. You are immediately dropped into an intriguing fantasy world following Elves who are on the brink of war with the humans. Ultimately this is a story of grief and healing, our fmc Alvara has lost pretty much everything and she is a bit of a mess. God do I love her though, she was so incredibly written and her struggles feel so very real. The found family in this book was amazing and BODEN! Dear god a golden retriever of man but filled with so much trauma! I love everyone in this but especially Boden and Alvara and the friendship they forge over the course of this book. The one thing I didn’t love was when the fmc was basically forced into an action that she really couldn’t control and is immediately vilified for it by everyone around her. It was resolved pretty quickly but the reactions from those around her rubbed me the wrong way and felt out of character. I still really loved this book though and it had some beautiful and painful moments. It was also action packed and I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here.
