Well that was disturbing, but in like a good way? Mycelium always creeps me out though. Now to get the nerve up to read book 2!

I don’t think I can look at a mushroom the same way again. Full review below contains some spoilers . . . . . . . . I loved all the references to The Fall of the House of Usher (as this book is inspired by it) and I greatly admire the dedication to fungi and their spores and secretions, it was fascinating to read. The use of neopronouns was handled brilliantly (although it did take me a minute to wrap my head around them, once I did it was so easy and natural to read, and the brief explanation on them was perfect) and I loved how these words implied the tarn was childlike/a child without needing to state it Second read: I enjoyed it so much more the second time, as I knew what was going to happen so I was able to focus a lot more on other aspects of the book, and I absolutely loved all the foreshadowing earlier on in the story!
