I loved this book so much. There were a couple predictable classic romantasy tropes but that’s honestly not a flaw for me personally. And one of the big major twists at the end I did not see coming. They truly did a 180 and made me see things in a totally different way which hardly ever happens! I normally form my opinions on everyone right from the beginning and don’t often change my mind unless something big happens. I can definitely see the little nods to fourth wing in this while still being its own thing. Perfect for fourth wing fans who want another series with bonded animal companions that can communicate. I need the next one like yesterday. One of my favourite reads this year. Reread: Honestly going in knowing the twist I still wasn’t seeing the red flags 😂 I’m convinced the red flags people seen was a nice guy, and they got me there. Shame on me for thinking a guy could be sweet and caring that is my fault. This reread got me so excited for Furybound I can’t wait to see where we go from here. And I do in fact still like the nickname kitten 🤷🏼‍♀️

I went into Direbound with cautious expectations, but I finished it genuinely amazed and already impatient for the next installment. While a few plot turns felt familiar (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in this genre), the story still managed to surprise me in ways that kept me hooked. The balance between comfortingly recognisable tropes and unexpected developments worked really well. Meryn, in particular, stood out as a protagonist who felt frustratingly real — flawed, emotional, and deeply human. That imperfection made her compelling to follow and added weight to the story’s stakes. Overall, this was an engaging and memorable read that left me eager for more.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. I loved so much about this book and I’m dying for the sequel in the new year. I could not put it down once I started, and it was just so freaking good.
